Marmalade

Description

Marmalade grew up as the princess of Snowblind Kingdom and the daughter of Queen Enya. She lived under a very strict household and was hardly allowed to go outside growing up. She had to go under strict training since she was the heir of the throne. She had to be perfect to her mother's standards. Her mother was not really present as a parent, the times they did interact it was mostly getting scolded or smacked for bad behavior. Marmalade would sometimes lash out, but still got in trouble for smaller things like a strand of hair being out of place at special events. Marmalade was mostly taken care of by Archie, her appointed knight.

One day, at 17 years old, after yet another fight with her mother for misbehaving at dinner, Marmalade has gotten sick of the mistreatment from her mother. She has spoken to Archie and her best friend, Fletcher, a few times before about how she wants to leave Snowblind. Especially when Archie would tell them stories about her journies to other nations. Snowblind Kingdom is shielded by giant gates, and no one is allowed to leave or enter the kingdom unless they were sent as knights. Archie tries to warn Marmalade about how leaving wouldn't be easy, especially since she has to live independently. Since Marmalade was in an angry state, she felt convinced she'd be fine. Archie gifts her a short sword of ice to keep herself safe. With the help of Archie and Fletcher, Marmalade was able to get past the guards at the front gate and escape into the wilderness of Snowblind. Not long after walking in the snowy forest for a while, and shivering from the cold, she realizes this might be harder than she thought it would be, and she started to feel really anxious about her decision. But she also can't go back, as she would be in extreme trouble. Before thinking further, she sees a light coming from inside a cave. She gets closer till she's able to look inside, and she finds Canon siting by a bonfire he made. Once both of them realize they both come in peace, Canon invites her to sit with him and they talk and become friends. They both decide to work together to survive, and Marmalade feels relief to have an experienced adult with her from now on.

Important Relationships

Canon

Marmalade met Canon in the cave. When they sat down by the bonfire to introduce each other, Canon told her his story about the Fall of Saguaro Village, and how he lost his home and is now looking for the mysterious witch to prevent further destruction, but to also avenge his people. However, Marmalade did not tell him her story, and told him that she was just lost instead and looking for a home. Marmalade looks up to Canon for his personality and values, and the way he's able to wield a sword. She wants to be like him, and she learns how to fight like him through his teachings and training. Whenever she is in trouble, and Canon comes to her rescue, she will get so happy and relieved to see him. She feels that she will always be okay as long as Canon is there.

Clementine

Marmalade and Clementine are like best friends. They are able to just be girls together. They are often together when they are at home and train together with Canon. They enjoy fighting alongside each other during their journies, especially since their sword elements go well together. Marmalade feels that she can tell Clementine anything, and they often share their secrets to each other, except the fact that she is the princess of Snowblind.

Simon

Simon is basically a little brother to Marmalade, but they often fight because of Simon's annoying pranks. They still care about each other despite the fact they call each other names and fight over meaningless things. The fights are usually harmless and don't last or hurt their relationship.

Bradley

Marmalade seems to really hate Bradley a lot of times. Even if he doesn't understand it, he seems to make her mad often. Their first interaction was when Marmalade and Canon arrived to a lone house in the middle of the green forest. Bradley was outside studying some animals in the wild, she catches him by surprise with her sword, even after Canon told him not to approach with hostility. Marmalade either shows annoyance towards Bradley, or ignores him completely.

Judith

Marmalade looks up to Judith as well since she is the only woman adult in their group. Sometimes she will ask her for advice on things, or rant to her about things, especially about Bradley. She also enjoys watching Judith forge weapons sometimes with Clementine.

Chimalli

Marmalade doesn't get to interact with Chimalli much since he's shy, but she sees him often in Judith's blacksmithing area or with Bradley.

Queen Enya

Queen Enya is Marmalade's mother, and they do not have a good relationship at all. She has never felt loved or cared for by her mother. She felt like she could never, and didn't want to live up to Enya's standards. They have never really bonded like mother and daughter, and most of their interactions consisted of arguing or beating for doing something disapproved by her mother. Even if Marmalade feels she would be better off without her, hence why she ran away, she still wishes she could recieve the love from her like she should from a mother.

Archie

Archie was Marmalade's caretaker growing up and her appointed knight. Marmalade always looked up to her like a big sister. Archie was the only one who would take Marmalade out into the city so that she could live a little. She is also who allowed her to meet and play with Fletcher in secret, since they were not allowed to interact because of Fletchers status in the caste system based on wealth (he is poor). Archie would bring them both to meet in the town library, owned by her father.

Fletcher

Fletcher is Marmalade's childhood best friend. They met in the town library when Archie would bring her there for a while. Marmalade would often sneak meals from lunch in the castle to bring them to the library for Fletcher. If it weren't for them being unable to be seen together, they would be together at all times. They would also spend Christmas together in the library growing up.
